History

Roquetas de Mar is a municipality of the province of Almería, in Andalucia, Spain. It is 15 Minutes (by car) from Almería and has a good connection to the airport. It has a prehistoric, Iiberian, roman and phoenician history, which you can still see on many of the existing old buildings in this area. You can also find a lot of Moorish history. The moorish people established the town for the trade of Seafood and Salt. In the late 1400s the Catholic kings wanted to own the rich south of Spain, so they sent their armies to conquer the area. After they succeeded, they evicted the Moorish from the region and the towns became Wastelands. Roquetas today Roquetas de Mar was a traditional fishing village, but it became a Tourist Resort in the 1960’s and is now one of the major resorts on the Costa de Almería. The resort, in the summer months it is a holiday resort for a lot of Spanish people, but there are also many holiday makers from England, Ireland, Germany, France and many other countries . It has miles of beaches, with the blue flag status. The promenade from Roquetas stretches from Aguadulce, in the east of Roquetas until the Parque Natural on the west. The beaches have amenities for water sports, and the Parque Natural still has the old salt marshs which attracts Flamingos and other rare water birds. If you love nature you will also find native plants and flowers there. Aguadulce has a fine marina, where you can berth your boats or yachts. Roquetas is also a great Golf Resort, with one course directly in Roquetas and 2 nearby. And because of the year round good weather there is no reason not to relax on the courses. Other attractions are the Water Park, the Aquarium and the go-karting
